“Close cooperation with the Fair Trade Commission, Executive Yuan will continue,” said Chorng-Jian Liu while meeting with OECD expert Dr. Vivek Ghosal



“NCC shall strengthen supervisory mechanisms on competition in the CATV industry with the Fair Trade Commission, Executive Yuan (FTC)”, National Communications Commission（NCC）stated on December 19 .



NCC Commissioner, Chorng-Jian Liu gave the statement while meeting FTC Commissioner Hsin-Wu Lin and other officers who accompanied Dr. Vivek Ghosal, the editor of Competition Assessment Toolkit, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).



NCC expressed that the FTC had recently introduced the Competition Assessment Toolkit of OECD to conduct competitive analysis on competition in the Taiwan CATV industry and the floating pricing mechanism in oil. To deepen understanding on the current status of the CATV industry in Taiwan, FTC Commissioner Hsin-Wu Lin and Dr. Ghosal visited NCC and exchanged perspectives on the issue.



During the meeting, Commissioner Liu said to Dr. Ghosal that NCC, as a regulatory authority based on collegial system, will closely observe development of market forces and derivative competition generated by the horizontal integration in the CATV industry, as well as vertical integration in program providers. In fact, all strategies that increase competition will be analyzed continuously. NCC will continue its cooperation with FTC in the future to ensure effective market competition and to create a video broadcasting industry with reasonable prices and diversity.
