NCC issues business licenses for mobile broadband (4G) services

TAIPEI, Apr. 30, 2015 – The National Communications Commission (NCC) has issued mobile broadband business licenses to the following
 three telecom companies:
Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd.
Taiwan Mobile Co., Ltd.
Far EasTone. Co., Ltd.

It is expected that consumers will be able to enjoy the forthcoming services during the first half of this year (2014), bringing Taiwan into the 4G era. In order to provide 4G mobile broadband telecom services as soon as possible, companies that have secured the bid are fully committed to establishing network installations efficiently; meanwhile, to accelerate network construction even further, NCC has streamlined the review and permit procedures.

The three operators completed their network installation and system examination before submitting applications. After licenses were granted by the NCC, the commission announced that if the preparations were complete, 4G services should be able to be launched during first half of this year (2014).

Although the three operators initially proposed its monthly fees for the forthcoming services to be based on the principles of “simple but abundant,” “valuation in usage,” and “justice,” NCC requested that the operators should also be completely transparent when revealing information of the new services so as to protect the rights and interests of consumers.
