NCC conducts drill at Disaster Prevention Mobile Communications Platform
NCC conducted a drill test on May 6 at the Disaster Prevention Mobile Communications Platform located at the New Central Cross-Island Station of Second Maintenance Office, Directorate General of Highways, MOTC. The drill was undertaken to verify certain functions of the platform, as well as to enhance general disaster prevention measures as a whole.
The five main telecom operators, Chunghwa, Taiwan Mobile, Far Eastone, Taiwan Star, and Asia Pacific Telecom, all participated in the drill, which was based on the hypothetical situation that a powerful typhoon had caused power failure and road damage in Dongpu Village in Xinyi Township, and landslides and rock falls had resulted in people being stranded in mountain areas. Accordingly, Nantou County Government was able to simulate certain situations and areas for those affected.
The drill itself encompassed applying the remote control APP for the power backup system, troubleshooting automatic transfer switches (ATS), supplying oil in the case of low-level alarms, and dispatching mobile base stations to enable communications for the people affected.
NCC plans to continue to implement its policy measure of Strengthening the Project of Disaster Prevention Mobile Communications Infrastructure, and conduct drills before typhoon season each year. By undertaking such drills, telecom operators can strengthen their readiness and capability of managing disaster prevention and emergencies when they occur.
