Transportation and Procurement Affairs Committee of the Control Yuan visits NCC; receives briefing on National Communications and Cyber Security Center (NCCSC) and communications oversight of NCC 中文
  President Chu Chen of Control Yuan and Convenor Sheng-Fong Lin of the Transportation and Procurement Affairs Committee and Control Yuan Members were among the nineteen visitors that called on the National Communications Commission (NCC) on March 23, 2021; the purpose of the visit was to receive a briefing from the National Communications and Cyber Security Center (NCCSC) and discuss various aspects of the operations of NCC.
  During this time, President Chu Chen emphasized that information security of both the country and its people has become more of an issue of national security in the digital era and that the nation can only be secure if information security is rigorous enough. He also expressed the wish that NCC can continue to coordinate closely with various ministries and public and private sectors to maintain information security of Taiwan.
  Control Yuan Members were first briefed on the National Communications and Cyber Security Center (NCCSC) and its achievements, and were then given a tour and explanation of the NCCSC and its operations. Subsequently, NCC Chairperson Yaw-Shyang Chen also gave a presentation on four key aspects of the NCC: (1)promoting digital infrastructure and reducing the digital divide in both remote areas and outlying islands, (2)maintaining order of the communications market and enhancing industry development, (3) protecting consumer rights and facilitating an inclusive digital society, and (4)harmonising convergence regulations, thereby aligning with more innovative trends internationally. Afterwards, Control Yuan Members held a Q&A session and exchanged views with the Chairperson Chen.
  The Control Yuan Members raised various concerns of the rights of people during the visit, including how to strengthen the self-regulatory mechanism of the broadcasting media, the administration of cable television, how to strengthen digital infrastructure in remote and indigenous areas, how to promote television access for those with disabilities and the rights of children and youth in broadcasting, how to recruit and train information security personnel, and how to cooperate with domestic and foreign security agencies to deal with the situation. After responding to the above questions, NCC Chairperson Chen also expressed the commitment of the NCC to strengthen the relevant policy initiatives with the aim that all people can enjoy high-quality and diverse communications services.
