With the aim of staying abreast of the latest global trends and international policies of the communications industry and exchanging opinions with regulatory officials from various nations, NCC Commissioner Yi-Ning Chen led an NCC delegation to the 2016 Telecommunications and Media Forum (TMF). The forum was held by the International Institute of Communications (IIC) and took place in Washington DC on November 29 and 30.
　　Issues and topics discussed by attendees at the forum included the Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, data protection and trust, and the open Internet, as well as the implications of both Brexit and the US presidential election on communications policy – all of which were valuable resources of reference for the NCC when making future policy making.
　　As NCC Chairperson Ting-I Chan emphasized the high value of international cooperation, Commissioner Chen was assigned to attend this event. Other attendees at the 2016 TMF included representatives of government authorities, industry and academia from various countries. FCC Chairperson Tom Wheeler and Commissioner Terrell McSweeny of US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) were also in attendance and delivered keynote speeches. Commissioner Chen exchanged opinions with regulatory officials as well as representatives from industry and think-tanks of various countries so as to deepen understanding of the latest industry development and regulatory trends.
