NCC holds 2019 Award Ceremony for the Promotion of the Establishment of Base Stations in Public Buildings and Land中文
NCC Chairperson Chen Yaw-shyang, on behalf of the Premier of Executive Yuan, Su Tseng-chang, presented awards to relevant agencies at the ceremony held in Taipei on August 4, 2020. Under the supervision of the Executive Yuan, NCC has been promoting the policy of establishing base stations in public buildings and land since 2014, resulting in significant improvements in mobile communications. Up until the end of 2019, government agencies (institutions) had made available a total of 627 sites for the establishment of base stations.
During 2019, a total of 15 sites were made available. With regards to central ministries and commissions, Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), Ministry of National Defense (MND) and Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) have actively collaborated with telecommunications operators to establish base stations, enhancing mobile broadband signals at downtown post offices, along the Taiwan railway and in national military camps. Similarly, as for county and city governments, Taipei City Government and Keelung City Government showed the most effective performance by offering locations on the MRT (metro Taipei) and funeral home buildings and lands to telecommunications operators for the establishment of base stations. Consequently, mobile communications quality across the region have been improved.
By encouraging public agencies to release buildings and land for the establishment of base stations, the mobile communications signals along routes of the THSR (Taiwan High Speed Rail), Taiwan Railway, National Freeway and other public transportation systems have optimized.
With forthcoming 5G services, operators have already begun to take assertive action to prepare for its launch later in the year. In response to the Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G applications, telecommunications operators will need to deploy and implement micro base stations in vertical application fields, including train stations, hospitals, airports, light poles and traffic signals. Public agencies therefore play a crucial role in promoting the establishment of 5G infrastructure, a smart city and smart transportation. It is hoped that public agencies (institutions) can continue to take the lead to make public buildings and lands available for telecommunications operators to establish base stations, enabling comprehensive and effective 5G mobile broadband services.
