Chairperson Yaw-Shyang Chen of the National Communications Commission (NCC), along with Commissioner Chung-Shu Chen and supporting staff, attended the "European Dialogue on Internet Governance" (EuroDIG) conference held from June 17 to 19, 2024, in Vilnius, Lithuania. The delegation engaged in bilateral exchanges with the Communications Regulatory Authority of the Republic of Lithuania (CRA), the Radio and Television Commission of Lithuania (RTCL), and the Office of the Inspector of Journalist Ethics, sharing important issues on communication regulation and internet policy.
The Lithuanian side, represented by CRA Chair Jūratė Šovienė, welcomed the delegation led by NCC Chairperson Yaw-Shyang Chen and they took the opportunity to discuss a range of topics, including the implementation of the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), internet governance policies, the management of disinformation, OTT TV regulation, and artificial intelligence (AI). Both sides expressed their hope to continue strengthening exchanges and exploring opportunities for further cooperation in the future.
During his participation in the EuroDIG 2024 conference, NCC Chairperson Yaw-Shyang Chen also engaged with key representatives from the European communications industry, government, academia, and research institutions. By continuously participating in international conferences, the NCC aims to deepen its understanding of international trends in internet governance. The NCC will also continue to engage in dialogue with various domestic stakeholders, aiming to ensure freedom of speech, protect user rights, and establish a safe and trustworthy online environment.
EuroDIG was established in 2008 with the main goal of promoting active participation of European citizens in multistakeholder dialogues on internet governance. It aims to share expertise and best practices, gather insights from different countries on contemporary issues, and seek consensus to shape the vision and direction of internet governance. This year's EuroDIG conference, hosted by the CRA, covered various aspects of internet communication topics such as human rights, child safety, data governance, and AI regulation.
