The CEO , Mr. Christopher Slaughter, and the Chief Policy Officer, Mr. John Medeiros, of CASBAA met with the NCC on January 23rd 2017. The NCC Commissioner Chen , Yi-Ning welcomed the VIPs and prepared to exchange opinions related to the tiered pricing on cable TV and pirated content.
　　CASBAA is a group that includes Asian TV licenses from 17 different regions and markets. CASBAA focuses on Taiwan’s “ tiered pricing on Cable TV” policy and hopes the price combinations can be determined by providers. Regarding its opinion, Chen, Yi-Ning said that NCC had received a number of different perspectives and would continue collecting information to be thorough in determining further business development and consumer benefits. The relevant subjects are still under discussion.
　　Due to CASBAA’s concerns regarding pirated content, Chen, Yi-Ning explained that Google Taiwan had proposed two response actions in a recent meeting . One option was to request that ads not be displayed on pirated websites, and the other was to lower the rank of pirated content on Google Search by algorithm in programming. NCC also showed its support by putting CASBAA into further contact with Google or Facebook.
　　The representatives of CASBAA also indicated that in June this year, it would hold a seminar in Taiwan, which will include discussions on radio and television policies. Furthermore, the development of OTT, digitalization, domestically-produced programs, purchase of ads, measurement of audience ratings, consumer protection, and consumer privacy will all be part of the discussion. NCC will also be invited to participate in the discussion to promote Taiwan’s television and film content industry and broadcasting platforms development.
