Commissioner Ta-Sung Lee met with an Israeli delegation on Tuesday, November 11. Director General for Ministry of Communications, Mordechai Mordechai, Senior Deputy Director General for Engineering and Licensing, Haim Geron, and delegates from the Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei (ISECO) attended the meeting. Both parties exchanged thoughts on various issues including the general status of communications, WiMAX licensing, next generation networks, and establishment of independent regulatory authorities.

This visit of Israel Ministry of Communications Director General, Mordechai Mordechai, was arranged by MOFA in order to gain understanding of Taiwan’s communication policies and development of telecommunications, technology, and industrial development. Consequently, the meeting was viewed, by both sides, as an opportunity to strengthen Taiwan-Israeli cooperation in communications.

Commissioner Lee explained the planning, legislation, licensing and operation of WiMAX in Taiwan and described the deployment and technology of Taiwan’s next generation fiber optics network, as well as the operation of the National Communications Commission itself - the very first independent regulatory agency. Deputy General Mordechai Mordechai expressed that Israel is currently under the hearing process of WiMAX licensing so it greatly values Taiwan’s experiences on the matter.
