Meeting with Mr. Schriver, President of Project 2049 Institute, Chairperson Peng points out that a policy has to include all voices for comprehensive administration.中文
Aimed to better understand the societal, economic, and political development of Taiwan, Mr. Randall G. Schriver, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, and current President of “Project 2049 Institute”, accompanied by Mr. Mark Stokes, CEO of the Institute, and Mr. Rupert J. Hammond-Chambers, Chairman of US Taiwan Business Council, visited Chairperson Peng on Tuesday Feb 24 2009. Both parties exchanged views on the operation of NCC, allocation of frequencies, and the future development of Taiwan’s radio broadcasting and television industries.
Bonnie Peng, NCC Chairperson, stated that, considering the trends of digital convergence, the authorities must look forward and think globally. No matter whether the issue is regarding policymaking, market opening or competition, it has to analyze the concerns of general consumers, industries and all citizens.
Peng also pointed out that NCC has cooperated with the Ministry of Transportation and Communications to enable the most effective use of limited resources. In addition, after the draft of the amended Satellite Broadcasting Act, NCC is preparing to propose another draft amendment for the Cable Radio and Television Act. As the current cable broadcasting and television markets of Taiwan is mainly run by multiple system operators (MSO), and the business environment is very different from it was a decade ago when the Cable Radio and Television Act was just enacted, media ownership would be one of main focuses of the draft amendment.

Established in Jan 2008, the Project 2049 Institute is a non-profit, independent nonpartisan organization that is dedicated to the research on the transition process of democracy in Asia, and the impacts of natural disasters, environmental issues and energy safety to this region for better security of Asian Pacific.
