Launch of Disaster Relief Mobile Communications Vehicles: NCC and major telecommunications service providers cooperate to enhance emergency mobile communications for disaster prone or remote areas中文
Five domestic telecommunications service providers— Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, Taiwan Star Telecom (TSTAR), Asia Pacific Telecom and Far Eastone Telecom— as well as the Taiwan Telecommunications Industry Development Association (TTIDA), have coordinated to build mobile disaster reduction mobile communications base stations, effectively base stations in vehicles, the launch of which was held at the Disaster Reduction Mobile Communications Vehicle Launch Ceremony at Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall on 27 November, 2018.
During the ceremony, twenty-six mobile communications vehicles with enhanced performance and optimized disaster reduction functions were displayed demonstrating the results of cooperation between the NCC and the five major telecommunications service providers with view to enhancing emergency communications services in disaster-prone and remote areas. The NCC Chairperson Chan, Ting-I and Commissioners Yaw-Shyang Chen and Yeali S. Sun, were all present at this event.
During her talk, Chairperson Chan expressed that in order to ensure communications lifeline during disasters, NCC has succeeded in promoting the establishment of disaster reduction mobile communications infrastructure according in line with its “Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program”, guiding service providers to accelerate investment in establishing base station infrastructure and transmission and electricity backup equipment in disaster-prone areas or remote counties. For the first phase of this program, NCC subsidized telecommunications service providers to establish fifty-six fixed disaster reduction mobile communications base stations; and, in order to counter any insufficiency of fixed base stations, establish twenty-six off-road disaster reduction mobile communications vehicles. Consequently, not only can telecommunications service providers be enabled to manage and allocate more resources, but also the range of disaster relief services can be expanded. For example, areas with a sudden need for communications services during a disaster can be supported with vehicles that can overcome difficult and terrain and provide citizens in disaster-affected areas with continuous, stable and reliable mobile communications services. The evolutionary history of disaster reduction mobile communications vehicles and disaster rescue relevant communications devices were also on display at the ceremony to show how the five major telecommunications service providers are committed to enhancing the quality of emergency mobile communications services.
