In the era of digital convergence, the quality of media content, the accuracy of information, and their impact on democracy and human rights have garnered significant attention. Therefore, enhancing media professionalism, curbing misinformation, and boosting the credibility of broadcast media are critical issues affecting today's international communities. As the regulatory authority for communications and broadcasting, the National Communications Commission (NCC) regularly plans relevant training courses to help broadcasting personnel improve professionalism and media literacy. This effort aims to facilitate the production and broadcasting of quality programs and the dissemination of accurate information, uphold media professional autonomy, promote diverse cultures, and enable the media to fulfill its role as the fourth estate, contributing to the sound development of the communications and broadcasting industry.
Hence, the NCC has planned the "Broadcast Media Professional Literacy and Citizen Empowerment Promotion Program" for the year 2024. This program is designed to help industry professionals acquire new knowledge, legal insights, and practical case studies while providing opportunities for discussion and collaboration.
The professional training courses for the year 2024 will focus on employees in the broadcasting and television industry but are also open to individuals interested in these topics. The courses are scheduled to be held in northern, central, southern, and eastern regions from September to November. The course topics include the operational development of the broadcasting and television industry, gender equality, personal data protection, privacy and victim protection, consumer protection, the protection of children's and adolescents' rights, the rights of persons with disabilities, suicide prevention, preventing the spread of racial discrimination and hatred, avoiding the dissemination of age and class discrimination, and mechanisms for self-regulation of broadcasting content. Additionally, in response to increasingly rampant issue of misinformation, the program will include courses and practical discussions on "Implementing Fact-Checking and Fairness Principles" to strengthen relevant knowledge and skills for fact-checking and balanced reporting.
The citizen empowerment courses for the year 2024 are intended for the general public, with priority given to empowering the elderly, children and adolescents, new immigrants, persons with disabilities, and opinion leaders from various fields. The courses are designed to facilitate collaboration between broadcasting companies, private organizations, and schools, aiming to integrate extensive resources and transform media literacy-related topics into courses or activities that resonate with participants. Through themes such as media production, misinformation prevention, rights protection, and multiculturalism, the program seeks to enhance the advanced capabilities of media literacy, including access, creation, and critical thinking skills for all citizens.
