NCC Chairperson Yaw-Shyang Chen and FCC Chairperson Ajit Pai hold virtual meeting, looking forward to continued cooperation中文

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairperson Ajit Pai has held a virtual meeting with NCC Chairperson Yaw-Shyang Chen. The call took place during the morning of January 14 and prior to the upcoming change in US administration and Chairperson Pai stepping down from his current position on January 20, 2021, ending his almost ten-year tenure as commissioner. Both parties took the opportunity to express hope for continuing cooperation in the future.

Although they have not met in person, NCC commissioners have previously had the opportunity to do so and exchange views. With both chairpersons coming from similar backgrounds in law and sharing appreciation for regulatory endeavors, they felt quite familiar with each other and were able to freely and warmly discuss certain areas of interest.

Chairperson Chen highlighted recent developments in Taiwan with regard to 5G, describing how Taiwan completed its 5G broadband auction and is looking at the ongoing 5G broadband auction in the US with much interest. He also wished that the COVID-19 pandemic could end as soon as possible so that face-to-face meetings could take place once more; with that in mind, the chairperson Chen also invited Mr. Pai to visit Taiwan sometime in the future to share his extensive expertise and regulatory experience.

Both parties agreed that both Taiwan and the US are strong allies and expressed their shared wish that the communications industry can continue to flourish and cooperation can be enhanced.
