Seven European Scholars Visited NCC to Understand the Media Status in Taiwan.中文
The NCC Vice-Chairperson Hsiao-Cheng Yu received the delegation of European scholars on 24 Jul 2013 to exchange opinions of Taiwan’s media development and current challenges as well as issues about the legislation process of the “Media Monopolization Prevention and Diversity Preservation Act”.
 Visited scholars including Professor Christpher R. Hughes from London School of Economics and Political Science (Department of International Relations), Professor Jean-Pierre Cabestan from Hong Kong Baptist University (Department of Government and International Studies), Professor Dafydd Fell ,the Deputy Director of the SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies) Center of Taiwan Studies, Dr.Hermann Halbeisen, a lecturer of University of Cologne (Research Institute for Political Science and European Affairs), Dr. Gudrun Wacker, a researcher of Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik;(SWP), Dr.Mathieu Duchatel a senior researcher of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute(SIPRI), and Dr. Sasa Istenic a researcher of the Slovenian University of Ljubljana (Department of Asian and African Studies).
 All of them have done an in-depth study of the relation among Taiwan, the Mainland China, and other countries for a period of time.
 Through the meeting, the scholars were interested in the background and status of media merger and acquisition cases (such as the Want Want-CNS deal, Next Media Sales and so on) in Taiwan that had caused a great attention in the society recently. Besides, they also paid attention to how NCC operated.
 The NCC Vice-Chairperson Yu explained operation of the Committee and NCC’s process of making decisionsbased on the Fundamental Communications Act. A public hearing will be held to solicitepublic opinions before making significant policies.
