Chairperson Yaw-Shyang Chen, Commissioners Lih-Yun Lin, Jiang-Jia Wang, Yi-Hui Wang, and Chung-Shu Chen of the National Communications Commission (NCC) visited the 5G AIoT Experience Center at the Taichung Software Park on July 18 to gain first-hand knowledge of 5G private network vertical field applications. Far Eastone Telecommunications Co., Ltd. (FET) President Chee Ching, Data Systems Consulting Co., Ltd. Chief Operating Officer Tai-He Pan, and Shih-Zong Ji, Director of the Taichung Branch, Export Processing Zone Administration, were also in attendance.
Three primary characteristics of 5G technology are enhanced mobile broadband, ultra-reliable and low latency communications, and massive machine type communications. Asides from offering consumers a significantly enhanced experience in mobile broadband, 5G also enables telecommunication operators to engage in cross-industry collaboration for commercial applications, ultimately facilitating diverse, smart innovative services.
The visit provided NCC with first-hand understanding of how the stable and extensive coverage provided by the operators' 5G private networks, combined with the integration of technologies such as big data analysis, AI modeling, and cloud services, enables various applications such as smart manufacturing, intelligent warehousing, and smart factories. These applications optimize production processes and equipment efficiency within the plant, maintaining high operational efficiency on the production line while also taking into account energy-saving management.
Looking forward, NCC hopes for continued collaboration between telecommunication operators and field operators, assisting small and medium-sized enterprises in Taiwan to undergo dual transformations in the digital and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) aspects, thereby enhancing digital competitiveness.
