Representative of ACIO, Ms. Alice Cawte visits Chairperson Peng to expect more cooperation with NCC中文
The Representative of Australia Commerce and Industry Office (ACIO) in Taiwan, Ms. Alice Cawte, visited Dr. Bonnie Peng, the Chairperson of National Communications Commission (NCC) on July 17th. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) and NCC signed the “MOU concerning Cooperation in the Regulation of Spam” and “Australia and Taiwan EME MRA” in 2007. Ms. Cawte and Chairperson Peng expected to have more experience sharing and exchange based on the existing cooperation.
Ms. Cawte studied Chinese in Taipei many years ago and took office last year. In order to understand the development of Taiwan’s policy, Ms. Cawte visited Chairperson Peng with the company of Mr. Daniel Sim, the Vice-Director of Economic and Policy Section of ACIO. During the interview, Chairperson Peng mentioned progress in drafting amendments to the Telecommunications Act, Cable Radio and Television Act, Satellite Broadcasting Act, and Radio and Television Act. She said that the amendment of those acts would enable the communications operators to run their business more efficiently, and safeguard the customers’ rights. Meantime, she made explanations on issues concerning modifying the CATV operation regions, and enhancing self-regulation and accountability in the media.
This visit was ended with a consensus to strengthen the mutual cooperation in the future. Both sides expected to invite more professionals from Australia to Taiwan to discuss the regulation issues.
