USTBC visits NCC, expanding Taiwan-U.S partnership中文
National Communications Commission (NCC) Chairperson Yaw-Shyang Chen accompanied by Chung-Shu Chen Commissioner and representatives from related departments of NCC welcomed head of US-Taiwan Business Council (USTBC) delegation Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy Chairman Keith Krach and USTBC President Rupert Hammond-Chambers, as well as representatives of other enterprises, in total approximately twenty people, on January 24. A range of issues were discussed, including the governance of Artificial Intelligence, facilitating the development of 5G microwave application, resilience of communication systems, and internet governance.

Chairperson Yaw-Shyang Chen emphasized how Taiwan and the U.S share many universal values, interacting closely and in diversified ways. He also highlighted how the issues that were discussed are key items of Taiwan Government policies, and many authorities are also involved, such as NCC, MODA, NSTC and MOEA. It was noted that NCC is responsible for governance over Taiwan’s communications industry, also being a key participant in internet security issues. NCC remains committed to its own duties and coordinating with other ministries with view to improving the development Taiwan’s digital economy.

Chairman Krach mentioned that the U.S shared similar views as the NCC in its responsibility in communications governance, emphasizing that communications security is a matter of national security. He mentioned that the U.S has promoted like-minded partners worldwide to join 5G clean network, highlighting that over 200 telecommunication companies have become involved up until the present. He noted how it is important for the U.S and the globe that Taiwan participates in such digital fields; he looked forward to further discussions on seeking opportunities for future cooperation in official, industry, academic and research capacities in trusted technologies and related fields in the future.

Both sides agreed this meeting was beneficial to deepening Taiwan-U.S partnership, expanding opportunities for bilateral industry and officials to maintain exchanges and collaboration. Taiwan looks forward to taking part in international communication and internet organizations, to jointly address related challenges with global key partners, and establish a safe and trusted environment for communications.
